Why Go Panhellenic?
Sorority recruitment is daunting. The thought of meeting that many new people at once and having to walk around campus in heels all day is enough to scare anyone. So, why do it?
The sorority experience has a lot of benefits. It provides academic enhancement, friendship, development of leadership skills, and the opportunity to serve the community. It's not just a group of women who like to party.
Sorority women are often at the top of their academic class. They can meet more individuals in their major through group study sessions hosted by their chapters and by Sorority and Fraternity Life. Members who do not meet their academic requirements will be provided with support to reach those requirements.
A common misconception is that sorority women pay for their friends. While dues are associated with sorority, that doesn't mean the friendships aren't genuine. Sorority women bond with their sisters by living in the house, attending sisterhoods and more.
Chapters are self-sufficient, meaning that each chapter has its own executive board. There are leadership positions for all interests, and serving on an executive board is an excellent resume builder. There are executive positions related to several majors, but they are also a great way to explore other areas of interest.
Service is a pillar of the Sorority and Fraternity Life experience. Each chapter serves its national philanthropy and local causes. Sorority women make a direct impact on campus and beyond. Members are expected to complete service hours, however, many go above and beyond what is required of them.
If a PNM is unsure if the sorority experience is for them, going through recruitment is still worth it. PNMs are not required to accept a bid at the end of the week and are free to drop out of recruitment at any point in the process. However, the sorority experience is worth it if a PNM does decide to stick around.
