FAQs
If I go through recruitment, do I have to join a sorority?
No. You are not obligated to join and may withdraw at any point during recruitment. This is a time to meet new people, evaluate an opportunity and do what is best for you.

Do I need letters of recommendation?
No, some chapters may review them, but it is not required. Letters of recommendation do not guarantee membership into a sorority.

I'm a legacy to a sorority, what should I know?
Each sorority views legacy status differently, and a large number of them do not recognize legacy policies in order to create a more inclusive environment. Each PNM will be evaluated individually and no chapter is obligated to extend membership to a legacy. Likewise, legacies should not feel pressure to join those organizations.

What should I talk about during rounds?
It is important to be yourself, so don't be afraid to ask questions. Ask about philanthropies, new member expectations, academic programs, campus activities and more.

What should I bring in my bag?
PNMs will have long days. Be sure to pack rain gear, walking shoes, hygiene products, a fan, snacks, makeup and anything else you might need.

What if I want to be in one certain sorority?
Only wanting to be a member of one sorority or only considering a few can severely limit a PNMs options for membership and can lead to disappointment. The CPC discourages choosing a chapter based on others' opinions or stereotypes.

What are the benefits of joining?
Sorority membership offers a support network, leadership opportunities, community involvement and more. Panhellenic connections extend nationally and internationally.

Is joining really for life?
Yes. There are similar benefits to being an alumna as there are an active member. You can join an alumnae chapter, serve as a chapter advisor, volunteer at the national level or work for a national office.

How do I learn more about the MGC and NPHC sororities?
SFL is happy to connect those interested in different councils to the correct leadership. The involvement fair, Greek expo and other community events are another way to learn about those organizations as well.

Will I be hazed?
OU has a zero-tolerance policy against hazing and actively works with SFL to ensure that new members have a safe and healthy experience. Members can report hazing at Ohio.edu/greek

I don't drink, will I fit in?
All chapters are required to register alcoholic events with OU and no member is required to partake in those events. The majority of sorority events are non-alcoholic.

What is the time commitment?
In your first semester, you should be attending new member meetings, chapter meetings, programs, philanthropy, and service events. Each chapter is different depending on commitment times.

What are the financial obligations?
Each chapter is different regarding finances. To read more about them head to our financial section.

What are the academic expectations?
To be eligible to go through the recruitment process, either through the primary recruitment process or through the Continuous Open Bidding (COB) recruitment process, all potential new members must have a 2.5 cumulative high school, transfer, or Ohio University (whichever is the most recent) GPA at the time of registration.

What are chapter house expectations?
Each house has different housing requirements. All of this information is listed in the PNM (Potential New Member) Booklet.

Membership Recruitment Acceptance Binding Agreement (MRABA)?
An MRABA is a document signed by PNMs during sorority recruitment committing them to joining a sorority and accepting of a bid. It serves as a legally binding agreement outlining the responsibilities and consequences associated with membership acceptance.
